I never did see this get to the list.

the office.

What would be the best product to get 2 fxo ports and 3 fxs ports.

Probably an 8 port gateway.
This would give you four of each and a network jack to tie back to your
asterisk server.

You could probably pick up a slightly used Toshiba or something along
with the phones off Ebay for a couple hundred bucks (since price is
your concern).

I hate to say it, but sometimes Asterisk is not the best answer.

Thanks,

Not a good application for Asterisk.
Plenty of good used hybrid systems around for cheap
With the failing business and economic decline in the US there is a glut
on the market
Start with eBay
Toshiba, Avaya, Lucent, NEC or Nitsuko
Panasonic is probably the best choice of all , since they have dual
ports that will accept either POTS or prop phones. Get one display phone
for any programming.
Installed with proper protection they will last 20 years or more.

Talkswitch is a good entrypoint system and easy to administer.

http://neobits.com/talkswitch_240vs_small_business_phone_system__free_support_p10664.html

Even though you might be able to get used systems you will want to pay
aparticular attention to how easy is it for you to install and maintain.

You get what you pay for, if you are lucky

Go with a used hybrid PBX, best bet is a Panasonic that suppots both
POTS phones and prop phones. It will outlast ANY micro-computer based
desktop hardware.
Perfect for a church or very small office or retail business.

I just replaced one that was installed 20 years ago, and NEVER needed
any attention until it finally failed.

Everyone seems to think a used proprietary system would be better - I
looked on ebay for over a week and never found something that indicates
that you can conference and have voicemail. In this day and age how can
you get along without that. and for a small school without a diedicated
person answering the phone I would think that an IVR would be critical.
I didn't find anything on ebay that had that for less than 3000.

Looks like a decent deal but I have seen much better.

There are plenty of free and feature rich conferencing services out
there if you need more than three participants.

Thanks,

I am assuming that by conference you want just 3 (external) party conf
since thats all the lines you got, Panasonic Digital systems can do up
to 8 party conf on their prop phones.
Panasonic does have a voicemail system.
Being a certified Panasonic dealer I can tell you that for what you
are looking I can sell it to you new for less than $3000.00
Here are some links (again for new):
http://www.ablecomm.com/bnekxphsyshi.html
$434 new free shipping. Includes some stupid internal voicemail.
Or this one again new:
http://panasonic-ablecomm.stores.yahoo.net/sa2pnprwikxt.html
Includes three prop phones. as well as the same internal voicemail.

Talkswitch is a good entrypoint system and easy to administer.

Even though you might be able to get used systems you will want to pay
aparticular attention to how easy is it for you to install and maintain.

Indeed a nice deal. It includes their nice voicemail that now supports
email integration. And 3 cordless phones with a cell site.
The TAW848 is their only analog system that has all the programming of
their Digital TDA system. The only difference is in the type of phones
that can be used, and the limitation to VoIP or T1.

Looks like a decent deal but I have seen much better.

There are plenty of free and feature rich conferencing services out
there if you need more than three participants.

Thanks,

person answering the phone I would think that an IVR would be critical.
I didn't find anything on ebay that had that for less than 3000.

What would be the best product to get 2 fxo ports and 3 fxs ports.

For the kind of small arrangement you've described you could find that
the Panason KX-TG4500 is suitable. It's a two or four line system. The
main phone has the FXO ports. The rest of the phones are cordless
5.8GHz extensions. It can have up to 8 extensions. They come in
handheld handset ans desktop handset form factors. The basic system
with one portable is around $400 new. The extra handsets are around
$130 each. The base unit has built-in battery backup.

I've owned one of these for a long time. It's easy to administer. Has
on-board VM, hold, conference, transfer, etc. It's an all-in-one
solutioon for small operations.
