In general, yes it is the correct list to ask on, although probably not
the only place (there are for example some job websites that do generic
computer stuff such as rentacoder.com).

I wish there was more Asterisk jobs out there. Searching dice, monster, LinkedIn, Craigslist etc usually doesn't yield much.

If they are "Bangalored" -- and I mean specifically outsourced, not just
happen to be jobs by companies that provide Asterisk solutions in India
or other Third World economies -- it is because they involve something
sufficiently well-specified and processised that this kind of cog can
become of it.

Time to get creative, start a business, and make your own Asterisk job.
VoIP is still a very incipient phenomenon on the uptake, particularly
OSS VoIP adoption, so marketplace saturation isn't there yet to teach
people its value so that you can presume upon anything.

It's a tired cliche, but really, you can't outsource creativity. People
can and must pay US $ rates for that. Offshored development / generic
backoffice business process support efforts did not bring us Asterisk in
the first place.

Besides, you wouldn't want a job "Bangalored" in the above-described
manner anyway.

Not really a commercial post but www.asteriskhelpdesk.com is good
place to at least post your profile or resume.

Although it appears there is little activity on
www.asteriskhelpdesk.com, there are quite a few projects being posted
regularly. The service allows you to post project as well as job
opening.

The reason it appears so bare is because as soon as a customer decides
on a "Guru", the listing disappears from the "Open Projects'.

Anyways, the service is free and will stay that way. I may get around
to upgrading and anding functionality. I can tell you that I received
at least a dozen "Thanks Yous", for helping people find business.

Last I checked, there were around 150 consultants and including core
Devs such as OEJ and other people that really know their stuff.

Anyone wanting to help improve the site is welcome to.

Thanks,
Steve Totaro

Thanks, but not looking for a consulting gig. If I was interested in consulting, I might be able to earn a living from it. My resume is 'out there' and I get a couple of calls a week from people who have projects. But... as I said, not what I am looking for. I'd prefer the stability of a regular pay check, and so I'm looking for a regular, full time, salaried position. Those seem hard to come by.

Doug.

There is also a section for employers to post links for "Real Jobs".
It is pretty bare. If I had the time, skills, and a little promotion,
I would have both a "Resume" section along with a more useful
"Employment" section that would probably be quite a bit more busy.

Again, any help is appreciated. I don't make a dime on this but many people do.

Another funny thing is that almost every month, Digium.com is in the
top ten visitor listings in Webalyzer.

Thanks,
Steve Totaro

What skills you have make all the difference. If you were to add to
your resume: Cisco CCIE and CCVP. Call Manager and Cisco telephony
guru. Nortel, and Avaya expert....plus Asterisk... then you will find
plenty of employment offerings in the web sites you mention Smile

Agreed. I've held one job that could be described more or less as a
full-time Asterisk job, and several others that bear tangential relation.

In every case, without exception, what was really needed was a VoIP
expert, not just an Asterisk expert. Someone that could integrate VoIP
systems and negotiate interop issues with these other platforms, as well
as legacy equipment. That's just where VoIP is right now.

In other words, there really aren't going to be any Asterisk jobs per
se, as such except in companies that are Asterisk shops to begin with,
be they VoIP service companies or consumers of VoIP services. At least,
right now.

In the latter situation, what is needed is someone who has network
engineering and integration expertise more than anything else - someone
that, if they know Asterisk and want to use it, is equipped to deliver
Asterisk as a VoIP implementation more or less end-to-end, with all the
things that go into that in an enterprise environment - network design,
QoS, interoperation, protocol analysis, etc. Knowledge of Asterisk in
and of itself, hermetically, is somewhat useless.

Get your CCIE and play golf all day and make at least $125k.

I knew a guy that did that, just to have him on staff, Federal Data
Corp got a 30% discount on Cisco gear. I think he might have worked a
hour or two a month when the the lower CCNNs could not solve a
problem.

Thanks,
Steve Totaro
