excuse me...

But did you not just post

[asterisk-users] OT Nice IBM 1U Server Gets Along w/Old and New
Digium Boards Cheap X305 $199

Did you not provide a link to a COMMERICAL entity?

Wasn't your a post a unsolicited post, that is, not in response to a
question???

There seems to be two standards here.

The fact that you do not work for them is immaterial.

If your argument is no commercial reference at all, then how do you
explain your post?

Hey Alex,

Take a chill pill dude ? he was suggesting it in reply as a solution to
someone else's problem.

If I ask a question (eg an Outlook dialer) and someone replies with
Snapanumber then that's an appropriate response.

Yes I've posted about Mexuar last year when I worked for them but only in
reply to someone asking a question about click to call.

This may not be an appropriate place to market/advertise commercial products
but it's not like you cant mention a single product by name.

Especially when it was so obvious this was a solution to the guys question.

John,

Please I know the job of any salesperson is to promote and push
their product every chance you get. But please this is as it says in the
mailing list name

Asterisk Users Mailing List - Non-Commercial Discussion

You are more than welcome to advertise your system in the ?biz
list to your heart's content. I take great pride in making a living in
supporting and selling Asterisk based systems (No I don't want to take a
look at Cogoblue.com Wink ) but I also respect the fact that the owners of
the list server, the persons that have taken the time to configure and
maintain not only Asterisk but this list server as well, have made it a
point to segment the lists.

I respectfully ask that you follow the list etiquette and
refrain for using the ?users list for commercial pitches and plugs to your
product.

Thank you for your understanding and I hope to see you in the
*-biz mailing list.

Alex

I do not know if you manage more than one box.

But if are setting up multiple boxes, you should look at cogoblue.com

It is a fully graphical configuration tool, not just dial plans but every
from inbound to IVR's

Disclaimer, I work for ISPBX

Hello,

About 4 years ago there used to be a script floating around to generate
dynamic graphs/diagrams of extensions.conf (the asterisk dialplan).

It was using GraphViz to perform the graphing.

Does anyone have a copy of this script, or a better solution to generate a
flowchart of my dialplan?

Thanks,
Matt

I felt like the cogoblue stuff is out of place and off topic, so I agree
that it should not be arbitrarily posted as a solution to any question
that it might seem to somehow solve.

However, I do not take exception to the IBM server post, even though
strict adherence to the rules would probably make it "illegal" as well.

There is an inherent difference between the two. The cogoblue post was
made by a paid salesman seeking personal profit indirectly through his
company. The server link, on the other hand was marked as OT, it was
not posted as a solution to someone's problem, and the poster most
likely does not seek to profit personally from the post. Many people in
the Asterisk community are on the lookout for inexpensive hardware with
enough power to run a decent sized system. So the inherent difference
comes down to one post being potentially helpful and the other not being
potentially helpful. There wasn't even any obvious mention in cogoblue
post that it was, in fact, a commercial product. If most of us weren't
familiar with the product already because of the previous over-posting,
then one could be slightly misled by the post.

And to make matters worse, it triggered a tangent that has completely
derailed the OP's thread and taken all focus away from the OP's original
question.

Just my two sense,
Brent

I think most people agree (or a least don't mind too much) if a commercial
product is offered as a possible solution to an OP's query, assuming it is in
fact, within context.

I'll leave it to others on the list to decide if John Signorello's post was
appropriate or not, given the context of the OP's original query, but if someone
posts a query directly related to a product I have to offer, I fully intend to
let them know about it in as least intrusive manner as I can.

Assuming a person's product is directly within context, not offering it as
possible solution could be a disservice to the OP and list in general.

Just a thought...

My post was made b/c John Signorello has done this before and I thought
that a friendly reminder of the proper places to post his 'offers'
should be posted.

This is the one that came to mind when I composed the email reply:
