This is such a dangerous thing - that one team member must have some
influence or control. I would find out what his concerns are, and attend
to those first, before finding a relevant organisation. Otherwise he/she
may just be using them as ammunition on why _not_ to use Asterisk.

I can't fathom how that's relevant, since I have
Quote: | shown them case studies from much larger organisations than us around the
country, and personally talked with other organisations using Asterisk, and
found one small business with about 10 phones in Joplin, MO and talked to
them, but he's insistent we find an organisation with 50-75 or more phones
in the Joplin, MO area using Asterisk before we go ahead.
So, is there anyone out there from the Joplin, MO area using Asterisk, or do
you know of someone who is? If so, please contact me so I can go forward
with this project.
Thanks,
Bryson

I can't speak for others, but I'm on here from a non-work address.
Asterisk is a competitive advantage, and I think many businesses are
reticent to advertise to their competitors how much money they saved
on such a great phone system. We're saving literally hundreds of
thousands of dollars by avoiding the ugly proprietary phone systems
from the usual telco crowd.
If you can't make the argument for asterisk by comparing the costs
against a proprietary phone system, just pull some quotes from a
proprietary phones salesperson. It should be a very easy business
decision, made on dollars and cents.

You might consider starting small, with a desktop computer that you can drop Asterisk onto it. You may even consider using the Druid Open Source Edition (OSE) Project (which automates a large part of the Asterisk management and setup).
And then implement a SIP-only phone system (no T1 or FXO cards required thereby reducing your cost). You can also obtain SIP only trunks for little cost which translates into low risk.
Then you are able to work with a functional, low-cost system that gives you an opportuniy to work (play) with the system to see what its capabilities are without spending a lot of money.
Then purchase a few SIP phones, and you are ready to test SIP to SIP local calls as well as SIP to Phone Switch Telephone Network (PSTN) via the SIP service. You can also play with the Voicemail system and setting up Voice menus, among a whole host of other features.
This approach is low risk and low cost.
Then as you progress, install a T1 card (or multi port T1 card) and take the next step to an all Asterisk solution or have Asterisk act as your Phone Gateway to your existing proprietary phone system that can be incrementally upgrade and replace with Open SIP Asterisk based system.

| My most recent install was in Springfield MO, 50 Zap phones, 25 SIP, 2
T1's, 12 POTS run through a Rhino Modular Channel Bank. We are running
Asterisk 1.4.16, recording all phone calls. Minor issues with dropped
calls (being worked on with LD provider) and occasional static, due to
using EM Wink signalling (provider screwed up and did not provision PRI)..
Stay with PRI T's and you should be fine.
