Just a heads up, I have talked to Jeremias from Khomp today and he
is setting up the wiki. I will personally be adding contents to the
that wiki if it ever picks up.

Correct. We have enough of them as far as English-language fora are

I'm with Anthony, the sub-domain idea is nice, I wish we could find a way to do internalization in our wiki in a easy/elegantly way.

I think we strongly lean towards using a sub-domain (if necessary) and
maintaining other language content in the same wiki in alternate
pages. If the wiki software we are using is not effective to create
multiple languages we should find a way to do it all in one. We can
set up an additional mailing list if necessary but also we have no
issue with going across multiple languages in both the mailing list
and in irc.

If we find a better wiki software that does internalization in a better way, I could help porting the documentation over to the new software.

The sub-domain idea is also very nice.

Would you be open to test another wiki software, that supports internalization/translation easier, if i am open to port the entire documentation to the new wiki software?

We could also do this for a better documentation.

  1. Pick a new wiki engine that does internalization/translation easier.
  2. Set some documentation guidelines from the start.
  3. Move stuff over to the new wiki.
  4. Start with the translation/internalization on the new wiki.

Instead of adding million of different domains for the languages, it would be nice if we only keep wiki.freeswitch.org, and the wiki software provides a list of languages to choose from.

Then when we click in one of the languages we have the wiki translated to the desired language.

I believe if we go this way we will be more organized, and there is more chances that things will get translated, and we wont be repeating too much information here and there too.

Just a thought... I'm open to do this work to make it happen.

The different domains per language is a good idea too.

Take a look at this for instance:

http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/start

This uses DokuWiki, check the langauges option at the top (en, de, el, es, fr, etc) and when you click one of them it translates the actual page to the desired language... I'd love to have something like that.

With sub-domains you'll need to start all over and it will be a pain to keep the documentation in-sync.

With a wiki that supports real translation it's easier to add a new line with the translation tag or whatever.

Just a heads up, I have talked to Jeremias from Khomp today and he
is setting up the wiki. I will personally be adding contents to the
that wiki if it ever picks up.

Correct. We have enough of them as far as English-language fora are
concerned;
other languages are a different question altogether, though.

http://moinmo.in/ is also pretty cool it seems and it's used for the apache wiki and others.

http://wiki.apache.org/

It also has i18n support, full text search, etc.

With a wiki that supports real translation it's easier to add a new line with the translation tag or whatever.

This uses DokuWiki, check the langauges option at the top (en, de, el, es, fr, etc) and when you click one of them it translates the actual page to the desired language... I'd love to have something like that.

I believe if we go this way we will be more organized, and there is more chances that things will get translated, and we wont be repeating too much information here and there too.

Just a thought... I'm open to do this work to make it happen.

The different domains per language is a good idea too.
