I'm no longer on the DEV mailing list, but:

# svn checkout http://svn.digium.com/svn/asterisk/branches/1.4 asterisk
svn: URL 'http://svn.digium.com/svn/asterisk/branches/1.4' doesn't exist

SVN was down and being restored,
