At 7:20am on Sunday April 1, 2018 the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, announced that the Canadian government has banned deployment of Kamailio software on any servers hosted on Canadian soil. Canada, which participated in the interrogation of Mr. Balashov, found Russian interference with the leading software product unacceptable and counter to Canadian interests.
The Prime Minister recalled parliament for an urgent session to introduce new legislation known as “Free Universal Network Neutral Initiative” (or “FUNNI”). The FUNNI legislation will not only protect Canadians from hostile code hidden inside the Kamailio software, but also prevent Mr. Balashov from becoming a Canadian citizen given his role in the scandal.
Consistent with Canadian norms, Mr. Trudeau apologized for Canada’s involvement in the interrogation of Mr. Balashov, and then cautioned Canadians that we can expect other such serious announcements today, and possibly more exactly one year from today. He also commented that Canadians who remain concerned about such news are likely part of the Digital And Free Telecommunications initiative known as “DAFT”, and expects to hear DAFT members raise real concerns about the Kamailio news throughout the day. |
