Hi all,
i want to buy a pci or whatever card for asterisk to plug in my
telephone line into it and use asterisk as a pbx. i have only one
telephone line at home. can you recommend me a simple cheap card which
i can buy in pakistan.

I live in pakistan, and i dont know any dealers here who sell asterisk
cards. if someone knows where to buy cards in pakistan, plz tell me
about it.
<snip />

I bought an X100p card from an eBay seller in the USA and I live in the
UK. If you can use eBay or something similar why not do that? I am
guessing that your PSTN will be similar to the rest of the world as most
Telcos use one of only three vendors' switches.

This one:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130213890766 looks
O.K. albeit a little more expensive. This is the kind I bought as it has
a low profile bracket so it would fit in a small PC case.

If you use a card like this, get the OSLEC echo canceller and they work
a treat!

Hope this helps

Alan

(PS - There's some info on my blog - link below - about setting up a
small asterisk home PC and getting OSLEC to work etc...)

I have a similar card (X101P Tiger Jet) but seems does not
recognize dmtf: external pstn callers cannot select from menu
options, that is asterisk doesn't route the ext user selection
coming from the channel Zap/1;

I read in ""The Future of Telephony (O'Reilly), ch. 4 pag.
74:
"Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time with this
hardware. You will find that if you ask the community for
support of these cards, many responses will be hostile.
You have been warned."
and thus I am shy to ask .... but I try: is there some
chances to manage an IVR with a X101P?

otherwise, which is a card of cheap price able to recognize
dtmf: openvox? sangoma? digium?

Is this region specific? Do you get some of the DTMF but miss some?

You may want to try relaxdtmf=yes or play with your gains as others
will say that relaxdtmf is not really a solution (to me if it works
acceptably, it is a solution...)

OpenVox should work as well as the older Digium TDM400 boards as they
are the reference design (and made quite well actually). Sangoma and
Digium should work better I would think.

While I do agree that those cards are not the best, I believe that DTMF
issues may not be directly their problem.

Basically two things to do:

1. make sure you have cancelled echo properly (e.g: using OSLEC in the
bad cases)

2. Lately there have been DTMF detection issues with Asterisk. Follow up
on those.

I can confirm that the card I purchased works fine with DTMF tones Smile I
have a simple IVR setup and can access voicemail boxes etc with no
trouble at all.

I am using the card with zaptel 1.4.9.2 (but a much older 1.4.5 or
similar was fine too) and the OSLEC echo canceller.

My zaptel.conf is this:
loadzone=uk
defaultzone=uk
fxsks=1

My zapata.conf is this:
; Zapata telephony interface ;
; Configuration file
[channels]
;Hardware defaults for the x100p card
usecallerid=yes
hidecallerid=no
threewaycalling=yes
transfer=yes
echocancel=yes
echotrainingwhenbridged=no

cidsignalling=v23 ; Added for UK CLI detection
;cidstart=usehist ; After patching the driver from here :
; http://www.lusyn.com/resources/asterisk/usehist.htm
callerid=asreceived ; propagate the CID received from BT
rxgain=6.0
txgain=6.0

;define channel
context=main_menu
language=en
signalling=fxs_ks
channel => 1 ;Our x100p
FYI - I have not got CLI detection to work (yet) but I'm not sure if I
have it enabled on my line and it wasn't a priority for me Wink

But I must say, since I discovered OSLEC, the card has worked a treat!
Not bad for ?17.00. Before I tried OSLEC echo was pretty bad.

HTH
